Welcome to the Hands On Training Institute Newsletter. Every month you will find updates about the institute, information about our corporate partners, new product information and of course, the H.O.T tip of the month . . . directly from the desk of Dr. Hebel and Dr. Gajjar So, let's get started . . . H.O.T tip of the month...
Standard vs. Custom Abutments Machined abutments have always been our preference because of the precision of fit that exists at the implant-abutment interface. This precision of fit prevents screw loosening and screw fractures that commonly occur with custom cast abutments. Standard implant abutments available through implant manufacturers are machined and as such, we have always used standard abutments in most clinical situations. However, in some circumstances, the standard straight or angled abutments are not appropriate, and custom abutments are required. In the past, the only option available allowing us to create a custom abutment was to cast it ourselves, usually resulting in poor fit and a higher incidence of screw loosening and/or screw fracture. Procera technology is now available that allows us to create custom abutments that are machined. The process is simple. A custom abutment is created in wax on the implant analog on your master cast. In the laboratory, the Procera scanner scans the customized wax abutment. The information is send to the manufacturing plant, and within a few days, the custom abutment is milled with the same precision of fit as a standard abutment. One of the best features of creating a custom abutment using Procera Technology, is that you have your choice of materials used for the abutment - titanium or zirconia. Zirconia is an all ceramic material with strengths approaching that of metal. These customized zirconia abutments are great in esthetic situations where tissue height is limited or in areas where the tissue is very thin. The ceramic abutment does not shine through the tissue as metal abutments do. Its really quite amazing where technology has taken us!! Click here to view a case using Zirconia custom abutments.
Mentorship Program We still have a few spots available for our mentorship program. This program was developed by popular request for those who were looking for one-on-one mentorship with Dr. Hebel. During this program, all the surgeries will be performed individually, with one-on-one guidance by Dr. Hebel, and will focus heavily on treatment planning, case discussions and of course, surgical technique. All the surgeries will be projected full screen in our new training facility with 2-way audio, so that all observers can fully participate in each case. Participants can perform a surgery or just observe and participate in discussion. Any one can attend as an observer. To do surgery on a patient, you must have attended Sessions 1 and 2. Session 3 (our grafting program) is required if you choose to perform any advanced grafting procedures (eg. Sinus elevations, autogenous grafts). Whether you are looking for more practice, or want to expand your surgical skills, this program allows you to elevate your case selection skills and perfect surgical technique. Now’s the time! Get registered, get a patient, and get great hands on training!! Call Rose at 1-888-806-4442 or click here for details.
Puros Allograft Puros is a mineralized bone allograft material available through Zimmer Dental. Their proprietary Tutoplast process, destroys and removes all unwanted material, such as fats, cells, viruses and microbes, while maintaining the trabeculation and porosity. This process makes Puros a sterile and safe allographic material. Puros can be used where small bone defects exist around implants, in sockets to promote bone growth and as a component of a mix of materials used in sinus grafts Puros is now available in Canada. Leasing Program The new leasing program that has just been introduced by Nobel Biocare Canada has generated a lot of interest. Many dentists are choosing to lease the equipment and training into one comprehensive package. For less than $450.00 (CAD) a month, you receive all the equipment you need, 20 implants and training at our Hands On Training Institute. If you do only 1 implant every month, you will still generate almost $1900.00 per month after all your expenses.
